Pumpkin Patch Primitives Autism in my family...

My son was diagnosed with Autism at the age of four. He was nonverbal until he was five, when he spoke his first words with the aid of sign language (that we taught him at home after teaching ourselves with the aid of books, posters and computer software!). I have been Homeschooling him since second grade; he reads, writes, hates math and loves video games...pretty much like every other kid his age. He is now 12 and I can't believe I have lived through it all. He is a loving and compassionate child. He cares for his pets and even remembers the dryer sheets when he does his chores...he's turning into quite a gentleman... A far cry from what I was told he would ever accomplish. If you or someone you know has a child with autism, hang in there and know that you too can live through this. Believe in yourself as a parent and know that your child is in there, you just have to claw your way into that "place" inside him and pull him out!

Gene Paul takes a yearly train ride on the Hobo Railroad. He loves just chugging along through the woods. Here he is complying to the request to "smile". He is very literal.

This is Gene Paul's oldest Pet, Thunder Clap the frog. He's outlived four buddies and Gene Paul loves him.
